He made the remarks on Thursday in reaction to some allegations pertaining to detention of some Iranian nationals in the Republic of Azerbaijan and in response to IRNA’s correspondent to the Second International Seminar of Muslim World’s Martyred Commanders.
‘Iran has good relations with its neighbors and it is always trying to improve such ties,’ Brigadier General Vahidi added.
The defense minister expressed hope that the officials of the Republic of Azerbaijan will prevent the mischievous efforts by some groups who try to undermine Iran’s friendly relations with Azerbaijan.
Asked about the departure of Iranian warships from the Syrian port of Tartus and the subsequent propaganda by Western media, Brigadier General Vahidi noted that Iran acts according to its national interests and it is never afraid of threats by anyone, particularly the US.
Elaborating on statements by an Iranian senior military commander who said that Iran will take preemptive measures in case of threats by the enemies against Iran’s interests, he noted that Iran has always made it clear that it will forcefully defend its interests and it will not allow any foreign threats under any pretext.
A top Iranian commander, General Mohammad Hejazi had warned that the nation will launch preemptive strikes against those countries threatening its interests.
