Iran Condemns Recent Terrorist Attacks in Iraq

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian Foreign Ministry deplored the recent terrorist attacks in Iraq which have killed dozens of innocent people, and said such acts of terror have targeted the country’s unity and stability.

“Such acts are the continuation of the hostilities of the streams which have targeted the independence, unity, peace and stability of Iraq,” Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast said in a statement on Monday.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that if political groups settle their differences through talks and negotiations, they will prevent foreign interference and overcome the security crisis,” he added.

Mehman-Parast also extended the Iranian nation and government’s condolences to the bereaved families of the Iraqi victims killed or wounded during the terrorist attacks.

A series of car bombs killed at least 20 people and wounded dozens of others in Shiite Muslim areas of Baghdad, officials said on Sunday.

The attacks on Sunday, the start of the local work week, mostly targeted outdoor markets. Officials said that all of the blasts were caused by parked car bombs.

The detonation of a parked car loaded with explosives in the sprawling Shiite district of Sadr City heralded the start of the attacks late on Sunday morning. Two more parked cars later exploded elsewhere in the poor neighborhood.

Other blasts erupted in the Baghdad neighborhood of al-Amin, in an open-air market in Husseiniya, just Northeast of the capital, and in the Kamaliya area in Baghdad’s Eastern suburbs.

Police and hospital officials provided the death toll, saying nearly 88 people were wounded in the blasts.
