Lavrov: Moscow, Washington Stress Necessity of Negotiations between the Government and Opposition

BRUSSELS, (SANA) – Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, stressed on Monday that Moscow and Washington are convinced in the necessity of seizing the opportunity provided by negotiations between the Syrian Government and the opposition.

Russia Today reported Lavrov as saying that he and his U.S. counterpart, John Kerry, talked about Syria and about the signs of hope which have appeared regarding the serious agreement of the Syrian Government and the opposition on the necessity of dialogue.

“We have discussed how we can help negotiations provided that preconditions do not stand in the way of dialogue… Moscow and Washington are convinced in the necessity of seizing the opportunity,” Lavrov added.

In the same context, Lavrov stressed that there was no government shipment docked at Finnish Helsinki Port bound to Syria from Russia.

Earlier, Finnish media said that Finnish Customs confiscated a container which had a military aspect at Helsinki port last January bound to Syria from Russia.

A Russian Customs source stressed that Petersburg Customs did not receive any sign concerning the confiscated container by the Finnish authorities.

Russian Ambassador in Lebanon: Supporters of Armed Groups Should Stop Interference in Syria

Russian Ambassador in Lebanon, Alexander Zasypkin, stressed on Monday that there is no solution to the crisis in Syria but the political solution, calling on the supporters of the armed groups in Syria to stop interference in the internal affairs of Syria.

Meeting a delegation of the Lebanese national forces and parties, Zasypkin said that the firm stances of Russia on Syria have always been committed to international stability and security, adding that Russia believes that the political solution through dialogue among all Syrian people spectrums is a suitable approach to restoring security and stability and meets, at the same time, the aspirations of the Syrian people far from violence.

he stressed that Russia will not accept any international double-standards concerning the political solution to the crisis in Syria, adding that foreign sides should stop supporting and funding the armed groups.

The Lebanese delegation asserted that the internal political solution and dialogue among the Syrians will halt violence and restore security and stability.
