Local Editor

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehman-parast stated that the upcoming talks between Iran and the 5+1 is a chance for the US to build trust.
Asked to comment on the view repeatedly expressed by Ayatollah Khamenei that direct talks with the US will not benefit Iran because of lack of political rationality and goodwill on the part of the American officials, he reiterated Washington’s readiness for talks with Iran.

He noted that the upcoming talks between Iran and the 5+1 to be held in Kazakhstan could offer an opportunity for the US or other western countries to prove their goodwill.
On another note, he stated that the plan suggested by Egypt’s President Mohammad Mursi is positive and close to one already proposed by Iran.
He made the remarks in response to a question on President Mursi’s plan to settle the crisis in Syria and Iran’s attitude towards it.

Noting that during the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation Summit in Mecca, the Egyptian president proposed formation of a quadripartite committee. The committee is to include Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkey but transformed into a tri-partite one following the absence of representatives of Saudi Arabia.
The spokesman elaborated that the committee has had three meetings so far with participation of foreign ministers of the three countries.
