Feb 20, 2013
MOSCOW/TEHRAN, (SANA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Ramin Mehmanparast, stressed on Wednesday that solving the crisis in Syria should be political and through dialogue and negotiations between the government and the opposition, however, some regional and foreign countries insisted on interfering in Syria’s affairs through sending arms to the opposition and encouraging the armed groups to carry out terrorist operations to pave the way for foreign military intervention.
During an interview with Russia Today Channel, Mehmanparast pointed out that military foreign intervention in Syria would lead to a large number of innocent victims and huge destruction of infrastructure in Syria, adding that the two sides in Syria are now convinced that the solution can only be reached through peaceful and political dialogue.
He asserted that Iran would exert all efforts possible and use its relations with the Syrian Government and opposition to find suitable atmosphere to launch comprehensive national dialogue inside Syria.
He called on the countries which are interfering in the internal affairs of Syria to respect the opinion of the majority of the Syrians and pave the way for free elections far from violence.
