Lawmaker: Foreign countries can invest in Iran’s air transprt sector

Tehran, Nov 23, IRNA – A Member of Parliament aid on Wednesday that foreign countries can contribute to and invest in Iran’s air transport sector.

Head of the air transport subcommittee of Majlis Commission on Development and Transport Mohammad Taghi Bakhtiari said foreign countries can invest in Iran’s air transport sector.

“Foreign countries’s contribution to Iran’s passenger and cargo transportation is based on a Majlis approval within the framework of the country’s Fifth National Development Plan,” he added.

The lawmaker reiterated that the Cabinet also approved that foreign airlines can have a share in Iran’s air transportation sector.

In the first stage, Bakhtiari said, foreign airlines can contribute to handling international flights in Iran.

He said there is no limitation for any foreign country to have a share in air transportation sector as Iran is now engaged in negotiations with Qatari airline to carry Iranian passengers abroad and vise versa.

Iran needs no nuclear weapon: President

Pakdasht, Nov 23, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Wednesday that the brave Iranian nation does not need nuclear weapon because such weapons belong to those lacking in culture and dignity.

President Ahmadinejad made the remark in a speech to local people in Pakdasht in the vicinity of Varamin in Tehran province.

Bullying powers try to create obstacles in the way of Iran’s progress and development as the country is now regarded as harbinger of peace and justice in the world, he said.

Those whose arsenals are full of nuclear warheads accuse Iran of attempting to build atomic bombs, he said.

They seek to find various excuses to obstruct Iran’s nuclear and scientific progress, Ahmadinejad said.

The President said Iran does not need nuclear weapons because they are possessed by those who have massacred native American inhabitants and took control of the country by force, underlined President Ahmadinejad.

On the position of Basij (voluntary force) in the society, President Ahmadinejad said Basij is the manifestation of rendering services to humanity.

During Sacred Defense era, all witnessed that Basiji forces sacrificed their lives to maintain people’s welfare, security, independence and dignity, he said.

This is among duties of Basiji to be kind to people and seek justice while defending the legitimate rights of the nation and strongly dealing with global arrogance, said President Ahmadinejad.

He strongly condemned the global arrogance and ill-wishers who try to create problems for human beings in their struggles to attain perfection, he said.

The Iranian people should conctribute to reconstruction of the country, underliened the Iranian President.

Foreigners aim to sow discord among regional nations- Police chief

Tehran, Nov 23, IRNA – Foreigners through their ten-year long presence in the region aim to sow discord among regional countries, the Police chief said at a ceremony here on Wednesday.

Brigadier General Esmail Ahmadi Moqaddam made the remark while addressing the first tw-day meeting of ECO members police chiefs which opened in Tehran today.

During his speech, Ahmadi Moqaddam stressed the need for promotion of cooperation between regional states and ECO members which he said could bring full security to the region.

“…and there would be no need to the presence of the foreign states in the region,” added he.

The establishment of the ECO police has turned into a need that can help reduce drug and human trafficking as well as organized crimes, said the Police chief.

He then noted that launching of a joint information system can also deal a deadly blow to terrorist groups.

On the first meeting of the ECO police chiefs, Ahmadi Moqaddam said the issue had already been raised and discussed in Istanbul meeting.

Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is an intergovernmental regional organization established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey for the purpose of promoting economic, technical and cultural cooperation among the member states.

In 1992, the Organization was expanded to include seven new members, namely Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
