BAGHDAD, (SANA) – Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Friday affirmed his country’s rejection of imposing economic sanctions on any country, saying that such sanctions harm the people of the countries in question.

The statement, made during al-Maliki’s meeting with intellectuals and academic figures participating in a strategic studies conference in Baghdad, is a reference to Iraq’s rejection of the sanctions imposed by the Arab League on Syria.

“We reject imposing economic sanctions against any other countries no matter the reason, because this will harm the people, not the regimes,” al-Maliki said.

Earlier, Iraq voiced reservations over the Arab League’s decision to impose economic and financial sanctions on Syria.

DAMASCUS, (SANA) – In clear disregard for the freedom of opinion and expression that western countries claim to champion and vaunt, the European Union on Friday imposed sanctions on the Syrian newspaper al-Watan and Cham Press news website.

This step constitutes a clear attempt by western countries to eliminate the opinions that differ from what they wish to promote which contradict reality and fact.

Eaelrier in September, the EU imposed sanctions on Addounia TV and blocked it from broadcasting on European satellites.

UK in desperation in dealing with internal problems, Ebrahimi says

Tehran, Dec 3, IRNA – Deputy Chairman of Majlis Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy Hossein Ebrahimi said on Saturday that UK unilateral sanctions and anti-Iran maneuver emanated from desperation of the British government in dealing with its internal problems.

UK in desperation in dealing with internal problems, Ebrahimi says
He told IRNA that the British government is unable to manage its national problems and resorted to adventurism to overshadow the current state of affairs inside the country.

‘By proposing unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the British government has embarked on adventurism although it will get nowhere.’

He said that Iranian lawmakers passed a legislation to reduce diplomatic relations to charge d’affaires level and trade to minimum in reaction to the UK adventurism.
